Our Story: South Carolina’s Essential Workforce

Since 1933, the South Carolina Trucking Association has stood alongside the people who keep our state moving.

From the beginning, our members have represented more than an industry. They’ve represented the heartbeat of South Carolina—ordinary, hard-working men and women who get up early, stay out late, and move the goods that keep this state fed, clothed, and connected.

What began with just 17 carriers in 1936 grew to nearly 900 by the mid-1990s and today includes about 600 member companies. Most are small, family-owned businesses that reflect the values of our communities: resilience, reliability, and pride in a job well done. Whether it’s a local operation with three trucks or a national fleet with a major terminal in the Palmetto State, every member plays a role in keeping South Carolina’s economy alive.

Who We Are
We are a non-profit trade association headquartered in Columbia, led by a dedicated staff of professionals and driven by a growing group of engaged members. Together, we share a common belief—that when we support the men and women of South Carolina’s trucking industry, we’re not just advocating for a sector.

We’re standing up for the working people who power our communities.

Our Mission
To advocate, educate, and collaborate—so the people who keep South Carolina moving can keep doing what they do best.

We fight for policy that protects working-class South Carolinians and helps small businesses thrive. We provide education and resources that strengthen our members’ operations. And we work side by side with industry partners, state leaders, and the public to ensure South Carolina’s future remains built on a solid foundation—one delivered daily by the people behind the wheel.
