The South Carolina Trucking Association elected Jerry Smith, General Manager of Associated Petroleum Carriers (APC), Spartanburg, SC as its Chairman of the Board at its Annual Meeting on June 12.
“Jerry knows SCTA inside-out, cutting his teeth here within SCTA’s Safety Council, and has been involved in every aspect of SCTA life,” said SCTA President & CEO Rick Todd. “He’s probably the first Chairman to have held the honor of SCTA Safety Director of the Year.”
Mr. Smith’s early career was in public safety as a volunteer fireman, 911 dispatcher, Deputy Sheriff and SC Highway Patrolman. He entered trucking as a safety supervisor, and moved on into commercial trucking insurance before returning to trucking management with APC.
Todd expressed confidence in Smith’s term being successful: “Jerry has a wealth of knowledge about the safety and risk management side of the industry, and it will serve us well as we promote compliance and highway safety, particularly safety around large commercial vehicles.”
APC is a 73-year old network of companies operating two-hundred power units moving petroleum products, chemicals and intermodal freight within the southeastern U.S.
Mr. Smith succeeds Jerome Jones, President of NW White & Co. of Columbia.
