Nine professional truck drivers representing South Carolina combined enough points to earn the state of South Carolina the ‘Team Trophy’ at the National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC) held this past weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The NTDC is the trucking industry’s “Super Bowl of Safety,” with contestants representing winners from all 50 states. The "Team Award" is given to the team with the highest average score.
The nine SC Drivers (listed below) and SCTA representative, Doug Lax, Charleston, were presented the award on Saturday, August 13 at the awards ceremony.

Mark Putnam, Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. - Straight Truck (Piedmont)
J. B. Quarles, Wal-Mart Transportation - Tank Truck (Laurens)
Edward Days, FedEx Express - Step Van (Bluffton) not pictured

Prior to this event, no team from South Carolina had won the award. “It’s a great day for South Carolina’s truck drivers,” said Rick Todd, SCTA’s CEO. “These guys should be very proud of the tremendous work they put into practicing and performing under what was a great deal of pressure. They proved they are real professionals.”
Ronnie Luckadoo of UPS Freight, was the highest-placing South Carolina contestant, taking 3rd place in the Twin-Trailers Division of the Competitions.
