South Carolina trucking industry leader Philip L. Byrd Sr., president of Bulldog Hiway Express in Charleston, was elected the 69th Chairman of ATA at its annual Management Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, Florida. Phil has been a board member for many years and served twice as chairman of SCTA.
"I am deeply humbled that my fellow ATA members would grant me the tremendous honor of representing them, and our industry, as chairman," Byrd said. "Our industry and our association are on the precipice of momentous change, and I hope that as chairman I can help not just ATA but our entire industry position themselves for these changes."
SCTA President & CEO, Rick Todd said: "Phil has been one of the most active leaders of his generation and he will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to work at the federal level. He will do an excellent job. SCTA and the state of South Carolina should be proud."
It is a great honor to have Phil representing ATA and SCTA. Only two other South Carolinians have served as ATA chairman: W.T. Cassels, Southeastern Freight Lines; and Richard Few, Cooper Motor Lines. We wish him great success in the upcoming year.
