Federal Funds Available for CMV Operator Safety Training Print E-mail
On July 13, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) published its solicitation for applications for FY11 safety grants. FMCSA disseminates funds and oversees grants awarded in support of 11 safety programs, including the CMV Operator Safety Training Grants. These safety training grants, authorized by SAFETEA-LU, provide one million dollars in grant monies to train current and future drivers in the safe operation of CMVs. Entities that are eligible for grant awards include state and local governments and accredited post-secondary educational institutions (public or private), including truck driver training schools. According the notice, funding priority will be given to those institutions serving “economically distressed regions” of the U.S. The federal share of the funds will be 80 percent, and grant recipients will be required to provide a 20 percent match. Completed applications for this particular grant will be accepted until October1, 2010 and must be submitted electronically through www.grants.gov. The grant applications, instructions and eligibility criteria can also be found on the website.
